Hi, I’m Mark.
I’ve been photographing people in Winnipeg for more than a decade — weddings, families, and the quiet weeks before a baby arrives.
What I care about hasn’t changed in all that time. I’m not interested in handing you a set of photographs that look like everyone else’s. I want the ones you’ll still stop on in ten years — the look between you, the way your kid actually laughs, the detail nobody else in the room noticed.
It started with a backpack. I’ve been travelling since I was nineteen — forty-three countries so far — and there was always a camera in my hand. Back in the early days of social media I’d post the images on Facebook, and people started asking. Could I photograph their dog. Their car. Their house. Then their wedding. By 2014 it had turned into a career.
These days I photograph a deliberately small number of weddings each year, alongside maternity and family sessions at our studio in the Exchange District. Smaller numbers mean I’m not photographing your day on autopilot.

I’m not in this for the light or the images. I’m in it because a camera is the best excuse I’ve ever found to get to know someone.
I know how that sounds. But I travelled the world on my own for years, and walking up to a stranger to ask whether they’d like to be your friend doesn’t tend to work. A camera in your hand does. It’s the best way in I’ve ever found, and it’s still what every session is really about.
You don’t have to know what to do with your hands.
Almost everyone tells me they’re awkward in front of a camera. Almost everyone is wrong — they’ve just never been directed properly.
I direct enough that you always know where to stand, and then I stop. That gap is where the real photographs happen. Most of a session is banter, and that’s deliberate — people don’t look like themselves until they’ve forgotten to perform.
I spent years photographing castles in Scotland and whitewashed rooftops across the Mediterranean. Beautiful, all of it, and none of it did anything for me. Put a person in the frame and I’ll happily work all day.
I’m photographing my own chapter too.
My wife Anna and I have three young kids, including twins. So when I say I know what a family session with small children actually looks like — the bribery, the one who won’t sit still, the ten seconds where everyone happens to look at once — I’m not guessing.
It changed how I work. I stopped expecting kids to behave and started building sessions around the fact that they won’t. The photographs got considerably better.
It’s also why I take maternity seriously. I’ve watched those weeks pass twice now, and they don’t come back.

A heritage loft on Albert Street.
Maternity and family sessions are photographed at our private studio at 68 Albert St, in the Exchange District — fifteen-foot ceilings, twelve-foot windows, and closed to everyone but you for the length of your session.
Having our own space changed what I can offer. Nobody is walking past, the weather never moves your date, and I can build a second lighting setup while you change without anyone waiting around.
Weddings taught me daylight, and daylight is the foundation every photographer builds on. But learning to build light — to shape it, and the shadow beside it, from nothing — is where the work got genuinely exciting again. That’s what the studio is for.
For weddings, I come to you — though plenty of couples add studio portraits to the same collection.

Every photograph you take home passes through a dedicated retoucher on our team — skin, stray hairs, creased fabric, distractions in the frame. Refined, never altered. It’s the standard, not an upgrade.
Fewer Clients, More Attention
I take a maximum of ten weddings a year. It keeps the work personal and the attention undivided, and it does mean dates go early.
